RFID-based sensing technology has great potential for monitoring structures and allows to accurately and efficiently determine request conditions and operating environment. Its main attractiveness relies in the non-contact measurement and sensor passivity, i.e. it does not require power to operate. SIFT developed this solution mainly for monitoring flexible pipelines, which are critical components in the oil and gas exploration sector and very susceptible to traction armature weakening by seawater corrosion. SIFT is developing a noninvasive and passive flooded annular detection system capable of accurately, quickly and safety monitoring the water ingress into the annular space of the flexible ducts, allowing for better line management from a more assertive evaluation of the study of remaining lifespan of the components and the optimization of intervention and maintenance routines.
